WATERPROOFING METAL ROOFS/BOX GUTTER VALLEYS/CUT EDGE CORROSION TREATMENT

Box gutter valleys are well known to be problematic and its no wonder they break down after years of use – after all they are carrying all of the rain water off the roof which is a lot of work throughout the years, replacing these valleys can be expensive and sometimes impossible however we have very effective ways of restoring and waterproofing these valleys.

We clean, dry, treat any rust, repair and reinforce all joints and fixings before applying two coats of flexible liquid rubber waterproofing – making your valleys and gutters leak free and fully functional.

  • CUT EDGE CORROSION

If your property’s roof is finished with metal cladding made from corrugated steel you may be at risk from the effects of cut edge corrosion.
  • Many people have never even heard of this condition, and fewer are aware that their building is suffering from its effects. Around 65% of buildings with metal cladding will have signs of cut edge corrosion.
  • Premature failure of metal cladding roofing systems is commonly caused by the cutting of the cladding to fit during installation, termed as "Cut Edge Corrosion", leaving the metal edge exposed to the elements for long periods of time, the result is in corrosion/rusting of the metal itself.

These areas can then be treated in eight step process

Thoroughly Clean Off

Thoroughly clean off any moss, algae and grime from the surface using high pressure water jet.

Flaking Paint Removal

Mechanically remove flaking paint and rust depending on the severity of the problem.

Feather The Edges

Feather the edges of the peeling coating, so there are no ridges when the new layer is applied.

Clean The Cladding

Clean the cladding again using a degreasing agent otherwise grime will prevent new coatings from sticking to surface.

Apply Coat

Apply coat of high performance rust inhibitor.

Fill in Gaps

Fill in any large gaps between overlapping cladding panels using a gun to apply the sealant.

Prime

Prime the treated area.

Apply Coat

Apply coat of the liquid waterproofing system combined with mesh tape if needed.
